On Sunday, people in large parts of Germany have to be prepared for sometimes violent thunderstorms with heavy rain.

The German Weather Service in Offenbach warned of local flooding.

During the day it hits the west first, until Sunday evening showers and thunderstorms spread to the south and parts of the center.

According to the forecasts, it will remain dry east of the Elbe.

In the eastern half of Germany, meteorologists expect peak temperatures between 25 and 29 degrees on Sunday.

In the west, 20 to 25 degrees would be reached.

At the start of the week on Monday, showers and thunderstorms are increasingly shifting to the northeast, according to the weather service.

In the other parts of the country, however, the weather is calming down for the time being with only a few showers and a mix of sun and clouds.

Temperatures reach 24 degrees to 27 degrees.
