Morocco .. A draft law bans the titles "Lala", "Moulay" and "Sidi"

The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior is studying a new draft civil status law that will apply to all Moroccans after its entry into force, local media reported.

Hespress reported that according to this law, personal names will not have to be preceded by any nickname or adjective, such as "Moulay", "Sir" or "Lala".

It is also forbidden to choose names that symbolize a city, village, tribe, or a compound name, unless a member of the family of the newborn on the father's side is registered with a compound name in the civil status.

It will be possible for every Moroccan registered in the civil status to request a change of his personal name if he has a justification acceptable by a court ruling.
