Dubai Customs launched its prize for intellectual property films for students of public and private universities, in line with the efforts of the state to educate and educate new generations about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, and with the aim of spreading the spirit of creativity and innovation in them in order to spread and strengthen the concept of intellectual property in society.

Customs will receive the projects participating in the award starting from the fourth of next July, to ensure the participation of the widest possible segment of university students in the award, which comes out of the need to educate individuals to protect their creative ideas and innovations from infringements that target their right to their intellectual property for their innovations and creations.

Youssef Aziz, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department at Dubai Customs, said, "The department is keen on the participation of new generations in awareness-raising efforts to protect intellectual property rights, urging them to be creative and innovative in their awareness initiatives, and giving them the opportunity to create films directed to educate society. He added that the award represents the latest initiatives developed by the administration to consolidate its role in working with new generations, encouraging them to innovate through making awareness films in the field of defending the rights of creators, and enhancing economic performance by enabling investors to spend on developing their products, without fear of incurring losses as a result of imitation. their products and piracy their ideas.

For her part, Senior Director of the Awareness and Education Department at the Department of Intellectual Property Rights Protection, Mahbouba Baqer, said, "The award has set three main objectives, which are to encourage individuals to develop creativity and innovation, and to enhance awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, while working to enhance the role of Dubai Customs. In the field of social responsibility”, she pointed out that the number of awareness-raising events on the role of intellectual property organized by the Department for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights reached 46 activities last year, and the number of beneficiaries reached 2358 participants, and during the first quarter of this year, the number of events reached 12 activities, and the number of beneficiaries 1394 participants.

Mahbouba Baqer explained that participation in the award is individually open to any university student in the country, provided that he submits proof of ownership of the project in which he participates in the award, with the need for the project to be publishable in order to benefit from it.

Evaluation Criteria

The participating films and applicants will be evaluated according to clear criteria, in the forefront of which is full awareness of the project idea, and how to apply it to achieve the highest levels of effectiveness of the solutions and ideas presented, taking into account the presentation quality conditions of the participating films in terms of sound quality, image accuracy and clarity of ideas.
