A major new advance for the LGBTQ + cause.

The American-Filipino Kataluna Enriquez became this Sunday the first transgender woman to be crowned Miss Nevada USA 2021 at the South Point hotel-casino in Las Vegas.

She won this title against 21 other candidates.

At 27, she becomes the first transgender woman to qualify for the title of Miss USA, whose ceremony will take place on November 29. If she wins this national competition, the ex-model could be the second transgender woman to walk on the Miss Universe podium after the Spanish Angela Ponce in 2018, while the competition has been open to foreign women since 2012.

“Mom, no words can describe how grateful I am.

For your infallible support, for welcoming me to your home, for having fed me.

What love… To all the sponsors, thank you.

I couldn't have done it without your help.

A big thank you to everyone who supported me from day one.

My community, you are always in my heart.

My victory is yours.

We just made history, ”the new Miss Nevada 2021 proudly declared following her coronation on her Instagram account.

In France, the Miss France contest is also open to transgender candidates.

In an interview with Le Parisien on October 27, 2019, Sylvie Tellier, the general manager of the company Miss France, said that she would not “oppose” the candidacy of transgender women.

Soon, the time for change?
