A team of researchers has managed to create the "world's first" weight loss device as part of the global effort to combat the obesity epidemic.

The website, University of Otago, New Zealand, stated that a team of its researchers, in cooperation with British experts, managed to make the device called "DentalSlim Diet Control", which is a very small magnetic lock that is installed by a specialist on the patient's upper and lower teeth.

This lock allows the user to open his mouth only about 2 mm, which limits him to a liquid diet, but at the same time allows him to speak freely without affecting the breathing process.

The participants lost an average of 6.36 kilograms within two weeks, expressing their enthusiasm to continue their weight loss journey.

Professor Paul Brunton, chief researcher at the University of Otago for Health Sciences, said that the device will be an effective, safe and affordable tool for people suffering from obesity, noting that it will be installed by a dentist with the ability to remove and install it frequently and with the possibility of disposal in case of emergency.

"The main barrier for people to successfully lose weight is compliance and this device will help them establish new habits, allowing them to stick to a low-calorie diet for a while," Brunton added.

He stressed that it is a good alternative to the surgical procedures that some people resort to to lose weight, such as liposuction or tummy tuck, without causing any "negative effects."
