[Global Times reporter Yang Weimin] The 11-year-old Hong Kong "New Democratic League" announced its dissolution.

According to a report from Hong Kong’s “Sing Tao Daily” on the 27th, the “New Democratic League” posted on the social networking site on the 26th that the organization held a meeting including all district councilors to discuss the organization’s stay; agreed by the majority and confirmed by all members Later, it was decided to disband on the same day.

They claimed that due to the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the need for district board members to take an oath, members have their own considerations, so they should no longer be stuck with the burden of the past and existing thinking.

The report mentioned that Fan Guowei, an important member of the "New Democratic League", was found to be "unproperly elected" in an election petition in 2019 and lost the organization's only seat in the Legislative Council.

At the beginning of this year, Fan Guowei and another member, Tan Kaibang, have been detained for illegal "primary elections" and have since announced their withdrawal from the CCP in prison.

Coupled with the fact that the law of the district councilors swears to "retire from the party", only 8 district councillors remained before the dissolution.

Former convener Ren Qibang said that the current political party background will increase the burden on members. The next eight district councillors will think about whether to take the oath on their own, but he personally prefers to take the oath.

Prior to this, many pan-democratic organizations had announced their dissolution, such as the "Hong Kong All Wills" where Huang Zhifeng was located.

The "New Democratic League" was established in October 2010, and its members are basically former Democratic Party members; it claims to take a "pragmatic and local route", but it is actually hyping the relationship between Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Tai Po District Councillor Guan Yongye claimed on the 26th that "I hope that the dissolution can guarantee safety, but no one can guarantee it, but it is better to do it than not to do it."

Many citizens bluntly said that the trickery of disbanding the "New Democratic League" in exchange for political life will not succeed.

Some citizens said that "they simply set up another door in the name of democracy to commit riots." Others said that "anyone who breaks the law will be arrested."
