The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare council will begin on the 22nd to discuss raising the minimum wage this year.

While the effects of the new coronavirus continue, the labor union is appealing for a significant increase, but it is expected that discussions will be difficult due to a series of voices from companies saying that it will be difficult to raise it due to worsening business performance.

The minimum wage is the minimum wage that a company must pay to workers, and the amount is determined for each prefecture. Currently, the national average is 902 yen per hour.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's council, in which representatives of labor and management participate, gives an estimate of the amount to be raised every year, and discussions for this year will begin on the 22nd.

The labor union has appealed for a significant increase, saying, "The minimum wage level is low and living is difficult even if you work. The increase will lead to the stability of the lives of workers and the expansion of personal consumption."

On the other hand, an organization formed by small and medium-sized enterprises said, "Companies with poor performance may be forced into a more difficult situation and may not be able to maintain employment of employees." I am asking.

Regarding the minimum wage, the government has set a goal of achieving a national average of 1,000 yen per hour earlier.

Last year, the council could not give a guide due to the influence of the new coronavirus, and the national average increase amount was only 1 yen.

This year, discussions will proceed in the direction of showing a guideline for the amount of increase for each prefecture next month, but it is expected that discussions will be difficult due to the large gap between labor and management.
