Because they were pregnant and single, the shame was too heavy, they lived in religious institutions.
It was in Ireland until the 90s. They were told that they had to pay their debt and therefore take care of very heavy household chores.
Very often, they had to abandon their child there.
23 years after the last Mother and Baby Homes closed, survivors continue to fight for their rights.
