Pharrell Williams has just announced that he will be opening several schools for children from low-income families in the state of Virginia, where he is from.

"If the system is rigged and unfair, then it must be broken," the artist said in a statement released by the

Virginia Pilot

.

As a reminder, in the United States, the best establishments are in the private sector, which further accentuates inequalities.

“We don't want a frozen learning that leaves so many children behind.

We want tailor-made learning designed for each child, where the things that make a child different are the same as those that will allow them to rise to take off, ”he added.

A new education

A first establishment, called Yellowhab and funded via the artist's foundation, is due to open its doors in the fall of 2021. It will accommodate 40 to 50 primary school children, who will be chosen through a lottery system and families who apply will have to meet certain income criteria.

The school fees of the pupils drawn will then be covered for at least one year.

Yellowhab will offer "an immersive educational environment that will stir the imagination in a space where children will transcend everyday life in a deeper learning journey", it is stated on the website of this new kind of school.

Definitely, Pharrell Williams will stop at nothing to make sure everyone is

happy
