The health authorities in Germany reported 1,108 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. This is evident from the figures from Saturday, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard from 5 a.m., subsequent changes or additions to the RKI are possible. For comparison: a week ago the value was 1911 infections. According to the information, 99 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 129 dead. The total number of people who died with or with the involvement of a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 is now given as 90,369.

The RKI gave the seven-day incidence on Saturday morning as 9.3 across Germany.

For the first time since September 13, 2020, it has fallen back into the single-digit range (previous day: 10.3; previous week: 18.3).

The institute has counted 3,721,139 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.

The RKI stated the number of people recovered as 3,601,200.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.70 (previous day: 0.72) according to the RKI situation report from Friday evening.

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 70 more people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

Chancellor Angela Merkel warned on Friday, however, to be very careful at the European Football Championship in view of the aggressive Delta variant of the corona virus. “It's nice that there can now be 14,000 fans again in Munich, for example. But when I see stadiums fully occupied in other European countries, I am a little skeptical whether this is the right answer to the current situation, ”said the Chancellor before a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron in Berlin. After the corona pandemic subsided, Macron was the Chancellor's first foreign guest in Berlin this year.

And while traveling to other holiday destinations is becoming easier and easier and every second person in Germany has now received at least one first vaccination, scientists and doctors, in addition to the federal government, continue to warn to be careful with the pandemic.

"It can be a good summer," said Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) on Friday in Berlin.

There is reason to be optimistic - especially if everyone stays attentive.

The faster spread of the more contagious delta variant of the coronavirus is a cause for concern.

The RKI also warned to continue to pay attention to masks and distance.

“The virus hasn't gone away.

Let's not gamble away our successes lightly, ”said RKI President Lothar Wieler.

"Let us also preserve the freedom we have regained by getting more and more people to be fully vaccinated."
