France: journalists from Europe 1 go on strike

The private radio Europe 1, which has not ceased for ten years to plunge into the polls, has been living since this Friday in an unprecedented situation: the entire editorial staff goes on strike.

It is a sad first for Europe 1. All the journalists, gathered in inter-union, start a perilous showdown with their management.
They contest the dismissal of a young journalist, Victor Dhollande, who surprised a human resources employee on Wednesday secretly recording the words of an internal meeting.
He had attacked her vehemently.
The employees of Europe 1 see in this disciplinary sanction the sign of a management by terror, already tested by the editorial staff of the Bolloré group, as recently in the sports service of Canal +.
The industrialist Vincent Bolloré has in fact taken a stake in the Lagardère group, which owns the station.
He wants to develop synergies between radio Europe 1 and the continuous news television channel CNews.
A chain which has made a radical turn to the right in recent months.
The company of the writers of the private channel refuses to become an opinion media at the dawn of an election year, and claims to fear losing its most precious asset: its capital of credibility with listeners.
This crisis therefore broke out in a tense climate, within an editorial staff already "
depressed
" by the voluntary departure plan initiated in the spring to eliminate around forty positions and rectify the accounts of the radio, whose audiences are struggling to recover.
Europe 1 is on strike until Monday June 21 at 10 a.m.
The follow-up to the movement will be decided at a new general assembly that day.
