The more than 3,300 meter high Etna spat fire from its crater on the southeast side again on Friday night, as the national institute for geophysics and volcanology (INGV) announced in Catania on Friday.
The lava poured down the slope of the mountain, and a column of smoke rose meters high into the night sky.
During the night, the institute registered outbreaks on Stromboli again.
The volcanic island is located in the Mediterranean Sea, about 70 kilometers northeast of Sicily.
The lava flows from the more than 900 meter high volcano often flow as far as the coast of the mini-island.
There were initially no reports of injuries or major damage from the outbreaks. According to INGV information, the two volcanoes had erupted repeatedly in the past few weeks.
