The objective: "to get out of diesel by 2026".

The municipality of Lyon announced this Thursday morning that it would release 15 million euros to renew part of its technical vehicles used to maintain green spaces or public lighting.

166 vehicles, considered “pollutants” will thus be changed by the end of the mandate, at a rate of around thirty per year.

Concretely, 21 new bucket trucks, with crane or tipper, running on natural gas, have joined the municipal fleet since January 1.

An economic advantage, reminds the town hall since the full costs 25 euros and allows vehicles to travel 300 kilometers.

Electrically assisted bicycles

These trucks complete the recent acquisition of 41 electric-assisted bicycles, 2 cargo bikes, around 30 bikes and mountain bikes, which are part of "a virtuous purchasing policy" and thus replace the Renault Kangoo. the oldest.

"With this investment increased by 50%, we want the City of Lyon to get out of diesel in 2026, and thus contribute to the health of the entire population," supports Sylvain Godinot, Deputy Mayor for ecological transition and heritage.

The objective is now to move towards a gradual elimination of all diesel engines in the municipal park ”.
