"Over the past day on June 17, 2021, 99 forest fires were liquidated in Russia on an area of 9,224 hectares," RIA Novosti quotes a message.
It is noted that by midnight on June 18, 67 forest fires were active in Russia on an area of 55,552 hectares.
In April 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the possibility of tougher punishment against those who set fires to hide illegal logging.
