• The children of the Ariane district take part in projects linked to ecology, such as initiations in sorting waste, eating food through a vegetable garden and now, bees and their role in biodiversity.

  • These workshops are carried out in collaboration with the Appese association (Association for the promotion of prevention and the social economy in Europe).

  • These actions allow Ariane to "restore its image through ecology" but also to "restore the image of ecology in relation to the inhabitants of the district", for Fatima Khaldi-Bououghroum, regional assistant.

In the heart of the popular Ariane district, to the east of Nice, the Christian-Lescos park (formerly Tripodes) plays the role of “green lung”.

An educational apiary has even just been inaugurated there.

"It is a great awareness-raising tool to show the importance of bees in biodiversity," exclaimed on Thursday on site beekeeper Lionel Verola.

Through this project winner of the Environmental Trophies set up by the city, the pupils of the Marcel Pagnol school will be able to "discover how beehives work and learn a little more about the protection of their planet", indicates René Fiaschi, president of the Appese association (Association for the promotion of prevention and the social economy in Europe).

This partner organization for the installation of beehives is also at the origin of several projects in the district.

“Every Tuesday, the children go to the shared garden where they have workshops with Gérard, the gardener, who explain to them how fruits and vegetables grow,” says Sylvie, a CP / CE1 teacher.

It's magic because at the beginning, they had absolutely no idea of the origin of what they ate.

Thanks to this initiative, they build their world differently, they discover and develop an important point of consciousness with the environment ”.

Children teach parents

For their part, the students are delighted.

Zahra, Djouwayiya, Idris, Chadine and Lina are between 7 and 8 years old and are already convinced that “when they grow up” they will also have their own vegetable garden.

"I like being in the garden, it's quiet, we learn things and then share them with our parents when we come home," said one of them.

The teacher adds: “It is all the more essential here because these are children who do not necessarily have contact with nature. They go to the supermarket and go home, to an apartment. Our small actions take them out of their daily lives and take them off the shelf. As a teacher, we are proud to be able to train these citizens of tomorrow. ". Awareness goes through food but also through waste sorting. “They become prescribers in relation to their parent. Education is also done from below, ”emphasizes Sylvie. The president of Appese shares this idea. "We pass on our knowledge, but young people evolve so quickly that we will soon have nothing more to teach them and they will be the ones who will tell us how to do it".

Thus, these initiatives are a way of "restoring both the image of the district and that of ecology for the inhabitants of Ariane", concludes Fatima Khaldi-Bououghroum, regional assistant.
