• Yacetom first hit the web almost six years ago.

Today, the duo have 850,000 subscribers to their YouTube channel.

  • Specialized in fiction, Yacim and Tom made themselves known thanks to their sketches called

    Bastards at school

    .

  • A few weeks ago, the two videographers launched the biggest project of their channel: season 2 of the series

    Wesh la school

    .

The story begins in a football stadium. Tom, in directing school, is active on a film set. Yacim, intrigued by the audiovisual world, takes part in this emulation, alongside his work in the mail service of Engie. It only took a few minutes for the two future videographers to sympathize and find themselves in front of and behind a camera. It was decided, they were going to launch into the realization of skits on the Web under the name of Yacetom.

Six years after their first steps, a dozen people work full time for the Yacim and Thomas channel, which has reached 850,000 subscribers.

With, among others, a project manager and a technical team, the two YouTubers try to delegate certain parts of their videos even if they like to have control.

"I want this accessory, I want to be dressed like this, I want to do that in this place with such light, I want an atmosphere like that", lists Tom.

From writing to comedy, they oversee all aspects of their projects.

Wesh la school

, the most successful format of Yacetom

Among them, the second season of

Wesh la school

, the biggest format of their channel. In this series, the actors play two teachers, one "a little racist" and the other "a little too focused on sex". Two stereotypical characters from

Bastards at school

, their most popular sketches. “In season 1, each episode was self-sufficient. Today, we are on plot episodes so we must always be in the daily anticipation of what will happen in the next episode, explains Yacim. It's a puzzle but it's super exciting. "

“It lasts for months and it's the most ambitious project we've had to do so far,” adds Tom.

However, if the public had not been there, the dream could quickly have turned into a nightmare.

Since writing and shooting a series requires significant resources, the teams have chosen to wait for the return of Internet users to tackle the rest.

“We didn't know if we were going to go through with it,” confirms Tom.

After a few adjustments, all the episodes will be written down on paper before being put in the box.

Direction Netflix (or Prime Video or OCS or Canal or…)

With this series, the two YouTubers are clearly showing their ambitions: to export themselves outside the platform on which they currently have more than 100 million views. “YouTube is an open-air CV. You show what you can do and if you're good, after a while, we'll come and get you. That's what's great about YouTube, you no longer need to knock on production doors with your project like before, ”says Tom.

In order to sail towards other horizons such as Netflix or Prime Video, Yacetom intends to diversify in the coming months.

The

Bastards

characters

, created almost four years ago, will be able to breathe a little bit.

"We must always prove that we are capable of doing whatever we want to do", certifies Yacim, who will be found this year with Tom in several short films, whose universes will be different from those in which we have seen them evolve over time.

“To be or not to be” by youtubers ...

For the past month, Tom and Yacim have been trying new things on their channel and alternating episodes of

Wesh at school

and

Bastards

with

unscripted

videos. The latest, "We are testing TikTok experiences (we tell you if it really works)", whose title is reminiscent of the content of Michou, Inoxtag, Amixem or Mcfly and Carlito, which monopolizes the top places of the most trendy videos. from YouTube. “There is a financial aspect behind that, testifies Tom in full transparency. It's good to do stuff like that because it brings a lot of ops ”, in other words product placements.

Thanks to the money raised following these commercial operations, Yacetom can propose more ambitious projects, like the second season of

Wesh la school

, because their priority remains the same: comedy. “We did a first try, we will do others, we have no special expectations. We have other styles of concepts coming, we will test and as long as we continue with the fiction side, what we work for and which drives us, we can afford to make "failures", "continues Tom.

Should we then consider Yacim and Tom as YouTubers?

“I think we are YouTube filmmakers,” replies the latter.

We cannot call ourselves filmmakers.

We were lulled a lot by the Studio Bagel era, Golden Mustache, this whole era of fiction.

We are not pure YouTubers but we are in between.

"" What we are aiming for is not to become YouTubers ", adds Yacim who says he has no specific expectations around this style of videos that are lighter and less difficult to set up, apart from showing themselves as they are in front of their fans who only know them through their fictional characters.

"Our rhymes are the punchline"

Their personality is that of two videographers whose ideas “come from both of us like a shisha”, laughs Tom. Among their favorite themes on screen: "school, work, family and ass", sometimes with a very raw vocabulary claimed by Yacetom. "We started by doing that so if tomorrow we did something else, it would be badly perceived by the people who follow us because it wouldn't be us," Yacim comments. And then, it's called

The Bastards

, they are two characters a little handsome, a little losers, it is completely assumed. "

“We are a bit of humor rappers.

We will never blame a rapper for being misogynist, we are in the same niche.

The rapper rhymes, and we, our rhymes, it's the punchline, ”concludes Yacim.

And like rappers, whose desire is to go from mixtapes to albums, Yacetom aims bigger.

After YouTube, the duo intends to invest in a film project, currently in discussion with streaming platforms.
