The Delta variant (former Indian variant) continues its progression in the Landes, with now some 250 proven and probable cases but overall "the health situation is improving in the department", said Tuesday evening the Landes prefecture in a press release.

The decline is taking place in this department as in the whole country, despite the presence of this variant.

"The monitoring indicators are favorable, with a declining incidence rate, 47 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and a positivity rate at a low level, also down to 1.4%", points out the prefecture.

The variant involved in 30% of contaminations

Thanks to the screening and sequencing measures carried out, we know that “the variant has settled widely in the Landes since the beginning of May, and is taking precedence over the other variants, which are on the decline.

We can estimate its presence at 30% of all Covid-19 contaminations over the last three weeks ”, specifies the prefecture.

Only three patients hospitalized in the Landes have a severe form requiring admission to intensive care, two of which are positive for the Delta variant.

The hospitals of Dax and Mont-de-Marsan note a stabilization of admissions to hospitalization of Covid-19 patients.

People infected with the Delta variant are rather young and unvaccinated.

To date, more than 50% of the Landes population has received a first injection.

The health authorities encourage vaccination "to block the virus and its variants".
