'Hierro de Oro'
awards
, respectively, with which the
Radio 5
program
'Clarín'
recognizes to matadors and rancher as winners of the 2020 season in Spain and France.
In a very small act, marked by the limitations of Covid-19, the veteran journalist
José Luis Carabias
gave way to each of the protagonists.
The first, the "miracle rancher", as he defined Victoriano del Río before going on stage to collect the
'Hierro de Oro'
from the hands of
Óscar Torres
, director of radio 5.
For the bull breeder, "this award fills my long years of work with love and affection for livestock. This award and this bullfighting space on the radio for me have always represented the most faithful reflection of what happened in the season ".
After him it was the turn of
Juan Ortega
, who received the
'Golden Ear'
as the winner of the atypical 2020 season from the hands of
Mamen del Cerro
, director of RNE News. "My memories as a child are those of having grown up listening to the bullfighting programs of Radio Nacional de España and this award was always something that I dreamed of being able to achieve. I saw it very far away and that is why it is the award that has made me most excited in my still short career ".
Finally,
'Clarín'
wanted to recognize the career of
Enrique Ponce
, "an alien of bullfighting with 30 years in the front line", as defined by
Carabias
, and give him a
'Special Golden Ear',
the eighth in his career. The teacher received it from the hands of
Ignacio Elguero
, the new director of Radio Nacional de España.
"The
'Golden Ear'
has always had a very special connotation because they reward consistency and I think that a figure of bullfighting first of all has to have that. The 'Golden Ear' values that and not the fact is to be well in a place and then not maintaining that regularity, which is the really difficult thing. It has been a special year, it has not been the one dreamed of, but quite the opposite. It has been an ordeal marked by the Covid and in which a lesson in solidarity has been given for get ahead. That's why the award has a special stamp. "

'Golden Ear'

since 2012.

took the floor to close the event, held in the Antonio Bienvenida Room of Las Ventas,

José Luis Carabias
