This Monday is World Blood Donor and Blood Donor Day.

The opportunity for the French Blood Establishment (EFS) to launch an appeal for donations, especially in Normandy where stocks are low, reports

"The period is critical," said Nathalie Delemer, head of samples for Hauts-de-France and Normandy at the EFS.

“With the confinement, the donation was an opportunity to get out.

There, with deconfinement, people no longer necessarily think about it.

The confinement had indeed generated a surge of generosity.

The EFS had registered 22% of new donors.

But deconfinement and public holidays have slowed down donations.

In addition, the Covid-19 pandemic is preventing collections in businesses and schools.

The vaccine does not prevent donating blood

EFS Normandy today needs 500 daily donations to achieve self-sufficiency, says

The organization recalls that a man can donate blood six times a year, a woman four times.

Nathalie Delemer also wishes to point out that vaccination against the coronavirus "is not a contraindication to donation".

In the event of contamination, a simple 14-day deadline must be observed before being able to donate blood again.

For this world day, collections were organized on Monday throughout Normandy, in particular in Le Havre, Argentan and Cherbourg, as part of the “Take over” operation from June 9 to July 9.
