The RFI Club of the Burundian refugee camp of Lusenda (DRC) took advantage of World Environment Day on June 5, 2021 to carry out an action to raise public awareness of the environment.

Club members insisted on the danger that litter poses to humans and the strong negative impact of plastic bags on biodiversity.

They made an appointment for a waste collection operation around Lake Tanganyika to make the places more pleasant to live in.

- Lake Tanganyika is located in East Africa, in the Great Lakes Region.

It is shared between several countries: Burundi, Tanzania, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

- Lake Tanganyika is one of the largest lakes in Africa, second by surface after Lake Victoria and third in the world by volume.

- According to the United Nations in the world, around 5,000 billion plastic bags are consumed each year (10 million per minute).
