“Over the past day, June 11, 67 forest fires have been liquidated in Russia on an area of 6,268 hectares,” RIA Novosti is quoted as saying.
It is noted that by midnight on June 12, 60 forest fires were active in Russia on an area of 44,266 hectares.
The maximum area of fires was recorded in the Irkutsk region, where eight fires were active on an area of 35,864 hectares.
In April 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the possibility of tougher punishment against those who set fires to hide illegal logging.
