On June 18, 2021, the Iranians are called to go to the polls to elect a successor to Hassan Rouhani as president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is prohibited by the Constitution from running for a third consecutive term.

The election is taking place in a climate of general dissatisfaction with the serious economic and social crisis that the country is going through.

For several months, the authorities have been calling for massive participation while the few projections available suggest a very strong abstention after the record rate of 57%, recorded during the legislative elections of February 2020.

Publicity

It must be said that the motivation is not necessarily there after the invalidation by the Council of Guardians of the Constitution of the candidacy of several personalities deemed insufficiently loyal to the Islamic Republic.

In Iran, the role of the president is generally weak, but this time the ballot is more important than the simple replacement of Hassan Rouhani.

So it is decisive to have a glimpse of the future of the country.
