  • Getaway: Five essential plans to do in Córdoba

You don't need the sea to enjoy the good weather and these swamps and lakes scattered around our geography are the best proof of this.

For all those who want to make a freshwater getaway, this is a selection of some of the most beautiful natural spaces without straying too far from the cities recommended by the Indie Campers motorhome travel platform.

Lake Sanabria (Zamora)

This lake, of glacial origin and whose depth reaches 53 meters in some areas, is the

largest in Spain

and one of the largest in Europe thanks to its 319 hectares of surface.

It is located in the province of Zamora, about 12 kilometers from the town of Sanabria, and consists of several beaches of sand and stones, mixed with nature, where swimming and fishing are allowed.

The most important beaches are, in the extreme west, Custa Llago and Viquiella and, in the southeast, Los Arenales de Vigo, Los Enanos, El Pato and El Folgoso.

In the area there are also campsites, boat rentals and leisure activities.

Arija Swamp (Burgos)

This reservoir is built in the upper reaches of the Ebro river between the province of Burgos and southern Cantabria, and is one of the largest in Spain.

It has a capacity for 541 cubic hectometres, an area of more than 6,200 hectares and a maximum height of 34 meters.

Bathing is allowed, but only in designated areas, so it is advisable to look closely where it is authorized to avoid scares.

In addition, we can go hiking,

bird watching

or enjoy different water activities.

Lake Banyoles (Girona)

In the largest lake in Catalonia we can enjoy a

good bath

thanks to its three areas enabled for it, in which, in addition, there are showers, toilets and lifeguards.

The lake has an area of more than one square kilometer, a depth that reaches 60 meters in some areas and is considered the largest karst complex in Spain.

Undoubtedly, it is one of the best places on the Costa Brava to cool off when the heat strikes and do outdoor activities such as running, cycling or canoeing.

Las Chorreras (Cuenca)

Las Chorreras del Cabriel are waterfalls, waterfalls and pools of crystalline water, declared a Biosphere Reserve of Valle del Cabriel.

This incredible natural setting is similar to what we can find on

paradisiacal islands,

so it is well worth a visit this summer.

Of course, it must be borne in mind that it is only allowed to bathe in the pools and it is totally forbidden to step on the tuff formations and slide down the stromatolite ramps since they are very valuable as they are considered one of the best representations of these geomorphological elements of the Peninsula Iberian.

Cubillas Reservoir (Granada)

This reservoir is one of the few places in Granada where bathing is authorized, so if we visit the province this summer we can cool off in it and practice sports such as

sailing, windsurfing or canoeing

in a privileged environment and with impressive views of the Sierra Nevada .

The reservoir is more than 2 kilometers long, 800 meters wide and reaches a maximum depth of 20 meters.

San Juan reservoir (Madrid)

Located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, this reservoir is one of the most famous and visited in Madrid.

In fact, it is known as 'the beach of Madrid' thanks to the quality of its waters and its wide range of water activities.

The Pantano de San Juan has several beaches in a beautiful natural environment and the most visited areas are the Cerro de San Esteban, on the right bank, and the

San Yelmo boat,

on the left side.

While, the best leisure areas are the Virgen de la Nueva and El Muro, where we find beach bars and boat rentals.

Orellana Reservoir (Badajoz)

It is the largest reservoir in the middle section of the Guadiana River and it was one of the first to obtain the

blue flag

on its beach.

Apart from bathing, Orellana Beach or Costa Dulce Beach, as it is also known, is perfect for fishing and enjoying water activities with friends and family.
