Pitted against Brexit, Elton John is not giving up.

The British star on Thursday urged the British government to find a solution to facilitate the tours of British artists in the European Union after Brexit, at the risk of losing "generations of future talent".

In addition to being hit by the interruption of concerts due to the coronavirus pandemic, musicians and entertainment professionals have since January 1 need a visa for tours of more than thirty days in the European Union.

Thus the new artists "will not be able to freely tour in Europe", "because of the prohibitive costs of visas" and other required documents, denounced on Instagram Elton John.

He accuses the government of having "broken its promise"

The singer said he met Brexit Minister David Frost last month, but despite the "looming catastrophe, the government seems neither able nor willing to resolve" the "gaping loopholes" in the trade deal with Brussels " and prefers to attack the EU rather than find solutions to this mess ”.

Faced with the minister who according to him invoked a long process to resolve these difficulties, Elton John replied that "our industry does not have time", "it is now that it is dying", accusing the government for “breaking his promise” to protect music and the creative sector.

A forum at the start of the year

"I call on the government to solve this mess otherwise we risk losing new generations of world-class talent," said Elton John noting that the creative sector represents 111 billion pounds sterling (128 billion euros ) for the UK economy.

“If I had had to face the financial and logistical obstacles that young musicians face today when I started, I would never have had the opportunity to build the foundations of my career and I deeply doubt that I would be. where I am today, ”noted the star.

Earlier this year, Elton John had with a hundred music stars - Sting, Ed Sheeran or composer Judith Weir - signed a column accusing the government of Boris Johnson of having "shamefully let down" the musicians.
