His plane should land in Lyon early Friday afternoon.

Tuna Altinel, mathematician, teacher and researcher at Lyon-1 University, will finally be able to push back on French soil after two years spent far from his adopted country.

The man had been detained in Turkey since April 2019 and a stay during which he was visiting his family.

Accused of terrorism, the academic was imprisoned but cleared last September.

He was accused of having attended in France, a meeting of a Kurdish friendly, during which he had served as an interpreter.

Despite his acquittal, the Turkish authorities refused to return his passport to him, thus forcing him to stay there.

A delegation has planned to come and greet him at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport on Friday.
