She has never "
been so worried about justice
": the words of Chantal Arens, the most senior magistrate in France. Last Friday, June 5, 2021, at the Élysée Palace, facing Emmanuel Macron, the first president of the Court of Cassation speaks of "
a system at the end of its rope
" and of "
collective despair.
The next day, the President of the Republic announces the Estates General of Justice, scheduled for September 2021. It is therefore within a tight schedule less than a year before the presidential election, that Emmanuel Macron decides to open a delicate file, while the judiciary is destabilized by recent criticisms, in particular those from the ranks of the police.
