[Explanation] In the maintenance workshop of Liuzhou Locomotive Depot of China Railway Nanning Bureau, employee Chen Weiguo is an audio enthusiast. He spent more than 100,000 yuan to purchase a home audio-visual system, which is very sensitive to sound.

Chen Weiguo can clearly distinguish minor changes in audio equipment.

In his work, he applied his sensitive hearing to the inspection and repair of locomotive failures.

[Explanation] On June 9, Chen Weiguo was conducting a routine inspection of the locomotive in the returning section.

After the locomotive starts, Chen Weiguo can judge the status of the diesel engine and the transmission system through the running noise outside the car.

(Outside the car) One is to judge the exhaust state of the diesel engine. According to normal, it is light blue smoke. If it is black and blue, it also means that the diesel engine is malfunctioning; the second is to judge by the exhaust sound If the sound of diesel engine valve struck, if you find any abnormal sound, get in the car and check which cylinder is making it.

[Explanation] Board the train, go through the narrow passage, and arrive at the heart of the locomotive next to the diesel engine.

Under the roaring sound, you must shout into your ears to make the other party hear clearly.

In this case, Chen Weiguo put one of his hammers on the diesel engine and the other on his ears, relying on bone conduction to listen to the operation of the cylinder.

When listening through ears, I suspect that it has a (fault), and then use a hammer to strengthen the judgment. One can hear that the valve gap is too large or too small, and the vibration can also judge the diesel engine body (whether) is cracked. Its sound is still different. It can be distinguished carefully.

[Explanation] In addition to the transmission system, Chen Weiguo can hear whether there is air leakage in the air duct of the locomotive.

For example, this kind of wind pipe, such a long wind pipe, and multiple joints, if it is loose, there will be a sound of wind. If we hear the sound of wind, we should carefully look for the joints of the wind pipe.

This air leakage sound is equivalent to this kind of sound. If we find this sound, we can touch it with our hands to judge the air leakage.

[Explanation] Chen Weiguo, 53, has been engaged in locomotive maintenance for more than 20 years after retiring from his job as a train driver.

In addition to the ears, Chen Weiguo's nose and eyes were also trained by him into sharp tools for overhaul.

With the aid of his nose, Chen Weiguo can find out whether there is burning engine oil through the smell of oil in the car; whether there is a rubber smell to judge whether there is a circuit ablated due to high temperature.

[Explanation] Over the years of practice, Chen Weiguo has accumulated many methods and tricks for troubleshooting locomotives. He also wrote a troubleshooting manual and made it into a video for every new employee to watch. The medals and certificates he received during the period were full Up the entire bookshelf.

Chen Weiguo said frankly that every time a fault is found on the locomotive, he can be happy. This is the motivation for his persistence and study.

With the development of railways, diesel locomotives gradually withdrew from the stage of history and were replaced by more powerful and environmentally friendly electric locomotives. Chen Weiguo also applied the construction methods he had accumulated before to improve and apply the electric locomotives.

For so many years, the faults can be found and eliminated in time during the inspection, and there is also a feeling of happiness in my heart. This is also the reason why I have continued to work for decades.
