A former professor at the Kinki University School of Medicine was arrested by the police on suspicion of fraud, alleging that he had forged receipts and pretended to have purchased medical supplies and deceived more than 17 million yen from the university.

Two people were arrested: Shinji Tatsumi (66), a former professor at Kinki University School of Medicine and a doctor, and Eiji Fujito (52), a former employee of a medical equipment sales company.



According to police, forged receipts and invoices from medical equipment retailers, pretending to have purchased medical supplies that were not actually purchased, 1700 from the university in about two years until mid-February. There are suspicions such as fraud for deceiving more than 10,000 yen.



Police have not disclosed the approval or disapproval of the two, saying they would interfere with the investigation.



According to police, the two suspected that they had made receipts with a forged company seal and had them transfer cash to Professor Tatsumi's account 18 times.



A suspicious point was found in the transfer work before the retirement of the former professor, and the university decided to dismiss the disciplinary action in March and consulted with the police.



For many years, the former professor has been conducting a judicial autopsy at the request of the police, and in February he received an award from the Commissioner of the National Police Agency.

What is Tatsumi Shinji, a former professor?

According to Kinki University, former professor Tatsumi Shinji entered the forensic department of Kinki University School of Medicine as an assistant in 1983 and was in charge of judicial autopsy.



After that, after working as a lecturer, he became a professor from 2007, and the number of judicial autopsies performed at the request of the Osaka Prefectural Police Department is more than 4000 in 38 years.

However, in the hand-over work before retirement, a suspicious point was found in some receipts regarding the purchase of medical equipment, and as a result of the investigation, it was said that about 17 million yen was deceived from the university in March. He was disciplined and dismissed on the 30th.



The former professor has consistently denied any involvement in fraud since the university's investigation stage, and on April 16th, he filed a lawsuit in the Osaka District Court confirming the invalidity of the disciplinary dismissal.
