On the 6th, the opening of the mountain climbing entrance on the Gifu prefecture side was held on Mt. Ontake, where the worst volcanic disaster after the war caused by the eruption occurred 7 years ago.

In September 2014, 63 people were killed or missing on Mt. Ontake, which straddles Gifu and Nagano prefectures, and the worst volcanic disaster after the war occurred. The decline continues, and climbers are returning.

On the 6th, before the summer mountain season, a safety prayer festival for the opening of the mountain was held at the "Mitake Muddy River Highland Training Center" in Gero City.

Continuing from last year, the number of participants was reduced to prevent the infection of the new coronavirus, and only about 10 people, including those in charge of the local tourism association and Gero City, attended.

After that, the participants offered tamagushi and prayed for the safety of mountain climbing.

After the Shinto ritual, Noboru Yamauchi, the mayor of Gero City, stated his determination, "We will ensure the safety and security of mountain climbing without forgetting that many victims have been killed."

Makoto Momohara, chairman of the Hida-Osaka Tourism Association, who hosted the mountain opening, said, "We will try to repair damaged mountain trails, ensure safety in the event of an emergency, and disseminate information, so please enjoy mountain climbing."
