Before playing the sulphurous American designer Halston in the eponymous Netflix series, Ewan McGregor was keen to understand in detail the entire process of creating clothes.
To do this, he paid close attention to the work of Jeriana San Juan, the costume designer for the series.
“We worked very closely, not only on his costumes, but on the creation process.
He came to the workshop just to observe the seamstresses or to watch me try on to get an idea of how a designer works.
It was a unique experience.
We worked on how to pin the clothes correctly, how the clothes are constructed and put together.
And I even showed him where my eyes go when I'm creating so that he can better direct his gaze when it comes to playing Halston on the show, ”she
told The Caroussel

But the actor didn't just observe, he wanted to put into practice what he had learned.
A born stylist
“I have a sewing machine.
I did a bit of sewing and got, what do they call it?
A model ?
I had one.
I had some fabric.
I bought a few books.
I looked at some pants I had on.
I turned them over to try to understand, ”Ewan McGregor recalled in an interview with the
Irish Times
.
After which he wanted to sew pockets before realizing that one of them was on the outside of the pants and the other on the inside.
“They were cool.
They had something Japanese about them.
I told myself that it was very current, ”he said.
