[Explanation] Thousands of blue waves and white waves are surging. On May 29, on the sea near the two small islands of Lung Kwu Chau and Shazhou in Hong Kong, a special ship was breaking the waves.

The people on the boat held white chrysanthemums, silently mourned, and then threw the white petals into the sea in the wind.

This is a theme event organized by the Hong Kong civil society to sacrifice the Hong Kong anti-Japanese hero Liu Chunxiang group at sea.

  Dear Captain Liu Chunxiang, and the heroes who followed you to go to sea to fight, we call you (we), we have never forgotten you.

  [Explanation] On the same day, Lin Zhen, the former chairman of the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independent Brigade Old Guerrilla Association of the Dongjiang Column, Yin Suming, the chairman of the Dongjiang Column History Research Association, and the Secretary-General Yin Xiaoping, anti-Japanese veterans and relatives of the heroic martyrs participated in the event.

  [Explanation] Back in the night of May 1943, Liu Chunxiang, leader of the Lantau Squadron of the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independent Brigade of the Dongjiang Column, led six squad backbones from Tung Chung to the waters of Lung Kwu Chau and Sha Chau, and was ambushed by two Japanese gunboats. After the fierce battle, the ship was sunk, and Liu Chunxiang, Zeng Kesong, Lin Rong, Wang Song, Tan Jinhuo, Wen Fa, Liu Jia and other seven commanders and five members of the boatman Liang Ke and his family died heroically.

In 2020, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the World Anti-Fascist War, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of China announced the third group of anti-Japanese heroes, and the names of "Liu Chunxiang and other 12 heroes who died in the battle of Longguzhou" were included.

  This event is of great significance, because it is the first time that we Hong Kong people have held a commemorative event for the anti-Japanese warriors included in the national commemorative list.

I think the first is to commemorate the spirit of Liu Chunxiang and other heroes who would rather die and fight to the end. Second, the boatman Liang Ke and his family gave up their lives to support the anti-Japanese guerrillas led by the Communist Party. This patriotic spirit is also worthy of our long-term commemoration.

  White flowers blossom to offer sacrifices to their loved ones, we are so grateful to them, and we miss them so much.

When our country lost its territory and our nation suffered the greatest disaster in history, they (the anti-Japanese warriors) stood up and used their lives and blood to fight to the death with the Japanese invaders in this area. Only then can we have the life we ​​live today.

So we are here to commemorate them and miss them.

  [Explanation] According to reports, the New Territories Heung Yee Kuk is currently working with the Hong Kong Guangzhou Association of Societies and other civil society organizations to strive to build Liu Chunxiang’s anti-Japanese hero in Longgutan before the 80th anniversary of the official establishment of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Independent Brigade, which is February 3, 2022.
