  Ou Huanzhang was born in the family of a small craftsman in the 1940s.

He grew up under the influence of the exquisite skills of various craftsmen and the "artisan spirit". He not only likes to do handwork, but also naturally likes woodcutting.

  Subsequently, Ou Huanzhang was admitted to the Printmaking Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1964, after graduation, he was assigned to the 41st Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and worked as an artist in the Propaganda Department of the Political Department of the Army.

In the army, Ou Huanzhang experienced arduous military training and participated in various military exercises.

In 1979, he participated in the front line of the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam and reported on the battlefield, so he won the third-class merit.

  In 2001, after Ou Huanzhang retired, he sprouted up a picture book to record life in wartime.

He used a pen to draw black-and-white scrolls, recording the changes of the times.

"At that time, I didn't think about painting things that were too tall. I just hoped to paint the war scenes I experienced personally in my childhood and record the progress and changes of society." Ou Huanzhang said.

  In 1944, Liuzhou was captured and occupied by the Japanese army.

At that time, Ou Huanzhang was only 4 years old.

He remembers that when the Japanese army struck, he followed his family into a life of upheaval and displacement.

When the Japanese army evacuated Liuzhou, the family returned home, only to see that the original home had been burned to ruins.

The family sits in the ruins, cooking soup and drinking.

These scenes stayed in Ou Huanzhang's mind, and eventually turned into picture scrolls.

  In Ou Huanzhang's picture book, he also records his fate with the People's Liberation Army.

When I was a child, the People's Liberation Army went to Ou Huanzhang's home to borrow a table.

Later, the table was damaged.

When the PLA returned home, it kept apologizing and took the initiative to repair the table.

This incident left a deep impression on the People's Liberation Army and planted the seeds of joining the army in his heart.

  On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Ou Huanzhang took a picture book into the Guijingwan Road Primary School in Liuzhou City a few days ago, telling elementary school students about life in the wartime and scenes of war experience.

He said, “I hope that the students will see the society gradually change for the better, they can study hard and cherish their current life.”

  It is reported that for decades, Ou Huanzhang has created a wealth of prints, comic strips, illustrations, posters and other fine art works. His paintings have been exhibited many times in national and military art exhibitions and provincial art exhibitions. Some works have been awarded and published in newspapers, magazines and professional journals. His representative prints "The Sentinel of the Fishing Port" and "Mixed New Rice" were collected by the National Art Museum after being exhibited in the National Art Exhibition. (Finish)
