According to reports, a total of 42 ancient tombs have been discovered and 24 have been excavated.

Most of the tombs are small and medium-sized civilian tombs, and a few are medium-sized noble tombs.

  The construction site is located in the Hunan Provincial Geological Middle School, in the Cultural Relics Burial Zone No. 19 (Mayuanwan Cultural Relics Burial Zone) announced by the Changsha Municipal Government.

Zhang Jingyao, the person in charge of the archaeological site, said that many batches of ancient tombs and important cultural relics have been discovered in the surrounding area of ​​the project during the process of cooperating with the urban infrastructure. .

  At the end of April 2021, the construction project started clearing work. Changsha Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology immediately sent professionals to carry out archaeological exploration and excavation work. The school attaches great importance to and actively cooperates. Currently, the exploration and excavation work is still in progress.

  It is understood that after on-site archaeological exploration, 42 ancient tombs have been discovered and 24 have been excavated.

The tombs are divided into two types: earth pit shaft tombs and brick chamber tombs. Among them, there are 3 brick chamber tombs, and the rest are earth pit shaft tombs.

Based on the analysis of the shape of the tombs that have been excavated and the unearthed cultural relics, 5 earth pit tombs are from the Western Han Dynasty, 3 brick chamber tombs are from the late Eastern Han Dynasty, 11 earth pit tombs are from the Tang and Song Dynasties, and 5 are not unearthed. And the times are unknown.

  A number of important cultural relics with a clear era have been unearthed during the excavation.

Among them, there are pottery tripods, pottery francium, pottery pots, pots and bronze mirrors unearthed from the tombs of the Western Han Dynasty, glazed pottery models such as pottery stoves unearthed from the tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and porcelain bowls, pots, pots and bowls unearthed from the tombs of the Tang and Song Dynasties. , Soul bottles and bronze mirrors and other cultural relics.

Most of these cultural relics are well preserved, and six bronze mirrors from different eras have been unearthed.

  Zhang Jingyao said that the tombs found at the site have the characteristics of large number, concentrated distribution and large age span. Combining with the distribution of ancient tombs around the site in the past, it can be seen that the area was originally a hilly area on the outskirts of Changsha. It has been used since the Warring States Period to the Tang and Song Dynasties. Funeral place for ancient residents.

The discovery of a large number of tombs in various periods this time has important research value for the study of the history of Changsha's urban changes and ancient funeral customs.
