China News Service, Kunming, May 27. China Earthquake Networks officially determined that a magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred in Yangbi County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan (25.74 degrees north latitude, 99.95 degrees east longitude) at 19:52 on May 27, with a focal depth of 12 kilometers.

In addition, the Earthquake Administration of Yunnan Province stated that the province will build a rapid earthquake intensity report and early warning system in June.

  The epicenter of the magnitude 4.1 earthquake is 8 kilometers away from Yangbi Yi Autonomous County, 33 kilometers away from Dali City, and 288 kilometers away from Kunming City.

  According to the China Earthquake Network Express Catalogue, a total of 119 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above occurred within 200 kilometers of the epicenter in the past 5 years. The largest earthquake was the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that occurred in Yangbi County, Dali Prefecture on May 21, 2021 (distance 11 kilometers).

  Since May 18, there have been many earthquakes in Yangbi County, with the highest magnitude being the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that occurred on May 21.

The earthquake caused 3 deaths and 32 injuries.

  It is reported that the magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred in Yangbi County this time. Many cities in Yunnan near the epicenter and some regions of Sichuan received early warning messages from mobile phones and televisions that had an earthquake warning function, which helped people get the prime time for emergency avoidance.

  Currently, the Earthquake Administration of Yunnan Province is fully advancing the earthquake intensity quick report and early warning project. It has rebuilt a provincial-level early warning center at the Kunming Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Mitigation Technology Test Base, which initially has the functions of earthquake intensity quick report and early warning.

In accordance with the work deployment of the Yunnan Provincial Seismological Bureau, the province will build an earthquake intensity quick report and early warning system in June. At that time, early warning terminals, TV applications and mobile phone software will be used to issue early warning information.

At present, the early warning terminal and the TV application early warning are in trial operation in the cities where conditions permit.

  Yangbi Yi Autonomous County is located in the west of Yunnan Province, named after the Yangbi River.
