The 23-year-old man suspected of having killed a young woman in the middle of the street in Hayange (Moselle) was indicted and imprisoned this Wednesday evening. During the night from Sunday to Monday, Stéphanie, 22, was stabbed several times. Shortly after, her husband, a Serbian national and quickly suspected of being the perpetrator, was arrested. “The victim received five stab wounds, said the mayor (RN) of Hayange, Fabien Engelmann that evening. “The firefighters were notified at 12:40 am, but the victim was already in cardiac arrest when they arrived on the scene. They stayed until 3 a.m. "

The suspect, a political refugee, was indicted for "spousal homicide" and placed in detention, said Metz public prosecutor Christian Mercuri. A woman in her forties with whom he was arrested on Monday during his escape was indicted for "evading a criminal from arrest or research" and placed under judicial supervision.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti and the Minister in charge of Citizenship Marlène Schiappa announced the establishment of an inspection mission concerning Hayange's feminicide.

"We decided to seize the General Inspectorate of Administration and the General Inspectorate of Justice so that an operational inspection mission is carried out to shed light on the terrible feminicide of Hayange", wrote Gérald Darmanin on Twitter.

An inspection mission after a feminicide

The announcement came a few hours after LR president of the Grand Est region, Jean Rottner, called for “an administrative investigation” into this crime.

The day before, the public prosecutor of Metz refuted any "dysfunction of the judicial services", and argued that the prosecution had not been notified of complaints by the young woman against her violent spouse.

This is the second time in less than a month that the Keeper of the Seals, the Minister of the Interior and the Minister Delegate for Citizenship, have decided on an inspection mission after a feminicide.

This was the case after a man, convicted of domestic violence, set his wife on fire in the middle of the street in Mérignac, after shooting her in the legs so that she fell to the ground in early May.
