On the 26th, a UNESCO advisory body registered the "Hokkaido / Northeastern Jomon Archaeological Sites" scattered in Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, and Akita prefectures, which are aiming to be registered as World Heritage Sites. We have compiled the recommendations that are appropriate.

As a result, it is expected to be registered as a World Cultural Heritage by the World Heritage Committee of this year.

The "Hokkaido / Northeastern Jomon Archaeological Sites" consists of 17 Jomon archaeological sites scattered in Hokkaido, Aomori, Iwate, and Akita prefectures. Includes "Oyu Stone Circle Site" and so on.

The country is based on hunting, gathering, and fishing, and people settle down and the village develops. It conveys the life and spiritual culture of the Jomon period, which lasted more than 10,000 years, to the present day, and has universal value. We are aiming to be registered as a world cultural heritage.

According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the UNESCO advisory body "Icomos" has put together a "statement" recommendation on the 26th that it is appropriate to be registered as a World Heritage Site with the highest evaluation among the four grades.

As a result, all 17 archaeological sites that make up the "Hokkaido / Northeastern Jomon Archaeological Sites" are expected to be officially registered as World Cultural Heritage at the World Heritage Committee held in July.

The person in charge of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, who met on the night of the 26th, said, "The life centered on hunting and gathering continued for such a long time before farming, because it was evaluated as showing a sedentary life without farming and a complicated spiritual culture. I'm glad I got a good evaluation because I told him that the point I was doing was worth it. "

On the other hand, measures that will be required in the future include the publicization of some privately owned land, the removal of inappropriate structures such as roads, and the reduction of impact, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs will cooperate with local governments and related ministries and agencies. We are going to proceed with the correspondence.

In Japan, it is recommended that Amami Oshima and Tokunoshima in Kagoshima Prefecture, and the forests in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa and Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture are suitable for registration as World Natural Heritage on the 10th of this month. There are 20 cultural heritage sites and 5 natural heritage sites.
