In an attempt to curb carbon dioxide emissions associated with firefighting activities, the Tokyo Fire Department has decided to introduce the first "smart pump vehicle" in Japan that discharges water using the power of an electric motor instead of an engine.

On the 26th, the vehicle was opened to the press at the Ishigami Fire Station in Nerima Ward, Tokyo.

A "smart pump car" is a normal pump car with auxiliary devices such as an electric motor and LCD panel attached, and water is discharged by the power of the electric motor instead of the engine.

With the engine off, it is possible to discharge about 300 liters of water per minute for one hour, which means that carbon dioxide emissions can be significantly reduced and noise can be prevented.

On the 26th, the actual water discharge was also released, and the firefighter in charge of the operation said, "It's so quiet that I'm worried about the water coming out."

Since this is the first time that a "smart pump car" has been introduced in Japan, the Tokyo Fire Department will deploy vehicles at three fire stations, including the Ishigami Fire Station, and will start operation sequentially from the 27th.

Kazumi Akiyama, company commander of the Ishigami Fire Department, said, "In addition to being environmentally friendly, I think it will also play an active role in fire extinguishing activities at night when noise is a problem."
