Anna K takes place in a contemporary St. Petersburg and Moscow with Svetlana Khodchenkova in the lead role, known from Tomas Alfredsson's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
The main story is largely the same as Leo Tolstoy's (1828-1910).
"The series takes place in contemporary Russia, where the society woman Anna Karenina, the wife of the future governor of St. Petersburg, begins a life-changing love affair with Vronsky, a handsome heir to an aluminum empire.
Their business is rapidly disappearing and threatening the balance between their family ties and social relationships ", writes Netflix in a press release.
The series is made in Russian and is part of the streaming service's investment in locally produced productions.
Directed by Valeriy Fedorovich and Evgeniy Nikishov, who previously had success with the Russian TV series To the lake.
