According to the Court, the cooperation between the publishers was intended to restrict competition in a way that is incompatible with competition law.

Cappelen Damm will thus pay a fine of 7.2 million Norwegian kroner and Gyldendal will pay 6.3 million, which corresponds to approximately the same amount in Swedish kroner.

In addition, they must together pay around two million kronor to the various courts.

The goal has been ongoing since 2014 and from the beginning, four publishers were involved to compete with the distributor Interpress. As early as 2017, the Norwegian competition authorities fined Aschehoug, Gyldendal and Cappelen Damm for cartel formation, but the latter two publishers appealed.
