Last week, during a check on the coast of the Etang de Berre, five people were fined in a vast case of shellfish poaching, according to a press release from the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.

On May 18, the coastal maritime affairs unit seized 351 kg of clams for these five fishermen, including no less than 103 kg for one of them.

The latter, a professional fisherman, had thus exceeded the authorized quantity by 75 kg.

As a reminder, a prefectural decree of April 6, 2020 prohibits fishing more than 2 kg of clams per person per day for a recreational fisherman, and more than 25 kg per day for a professional fisherman.

The authorities also seized the fishing equipment, for a total estimated value of 1,690 euros.

The clams seized were returned to the water.
