Almost a ton of cocaine in several bags has washed up on beaches in southern England.

Walkers found the drug worth a total of around 80 million pounds (the equivalent of more than 92 million euros) early in the morning near the towns of Hastings and Newhaven on the English Channel, as the National Crime Agency (NCA) announced on Tuesday.

The drugs were packed in waterproof bags and tied to life jackets that kept them afloat.

The NCA said it was probably two shipments of narcotics from South America.

Losing that amount of cocaine would be a hard blow to drug dealers, news site The Argus UK quoted an NCA spokesman as saying.

It is still unclear where the total of 960 kilograms of drugs were thrown into the sea.

A comprehensive forensic investigation is still ongoing.

In the past few days, some packages with valuable drugs had already been found in the region.

They now want to clear up the cases in international cooperation.
