On Sunday 23 May, a Boeing 737 with the founder of the opposition blog Nexta, Roman Protassevich, on board, was intercepted by Belarusian security to land in Minsk instead of Vilnius.
A cascade of outrageous reactions ensued.
Several countries have suggested no longer passing through Belarusian airspace.
The heads of state of the European Union are due to meet this evening to discuss sanctions against the Lukashenko regime.
