On the morning of the 24th, a man in his 70s who was picking edible wild plants in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture, was injured by a bear attacking him and was treated at the hospital.

This is the first time that a bear has been injured in Niigata prefecture this year, and police are strengthening patrols and calling on them to stay out of the mountains near the site.

On the morning of the 24th, a man in his 70s who was picking edible wild plants alone in Sekiyama, Myoko City was attacked by a bear, and his wife reported to the fire department.

The man was injured by being bitten on both legs and is being treated at the hospital.

According to police, the bear was about 1.3 meters long and fled into the mountains after attacking a man.

The site is in the mountains about 600 meters west of Sekiyama Shrine near the Joshinetsu Expressway Myoko service area, and police are strengthening patrols and calling for people to stay out of the mountains near the site.

According to the prefecture, 91 bear sightings have been received by the 21st of this month, but this is the first time this year that a bear has been injured.

The prefecture seems to be activating the activity of bears that have finished hibernation, so when entering the mountains for picking edible wild plants, avoid acting alone and urge them to carry bells, radios, and other sounding objects.
