The ski resort of La Clusaz (Haute-Savoie) will open part of its ski area free of charge on Sunday and Monday to 2,000 skiers thanks to "exceptional snow conditions", we learned on Wednesday from the management of lifts.

"For weeks on end, we dream of finally putting our buttocks on a chairlift after all these positive elevations swallowed up ... We no longer wanted to believe it and yet, it seems that it will soon be done", announces the Haute-Savoie resort on its website.

Free access

“We can therefore officially announce the opening of the winter season on May 23 and, by the way, the closure of this season on the 24th. The season has never been so short and intense!

», She quips.

In total, five tracks in the Balme sector, which culminates at an altitude of 2,400 meters to the east of the resort, will be accessible free of charge and according to the health protocol in force for two days, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at winter sports enthusiasts, who can take two chairlifts and a cable car.

The 2019-2020 season was the "worst" for twenty years

“We have set ourselves a welcome gauge of 1,000 people per day on the area,” explains Jean-Christophe Hoff, director of the ski lifts at La Clusaz.

He specifies that access to the slopes will only be possible after booking a ski pass on the resort website.

“It snowed again yesterday above 1,500 meters.

There will be a lot of preparation work to be done, but we want to show our employees and our customers that we are not giving up and that this season, we have done it, ”he emphasizes.

According to a report published in mid-April, the 2019-2020 season has been the “worst” in two decades for the ski tourism industry around the world due to the pandemic.

He believes the 2020-21 season will be even worse.
