HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND RESPOND TO VAGAL DISEASE?

- Wednesday, in "Without appointment", doctor Jimmy Mohamed gave some advice to recognize a vagal discomfort and react well.

The important thing, he recalls, is to lie down and raise the legs well to bring the blood up to the level of the brain.

Rather common, vagal discomfort can nevertheless be impressive.

And when a person falls for it by our side, we do not necessarily know how to react, while the actions to be performed are simple.

It is above all necessary to elevate your legs in order to bring the blood up to the level of the brain, recalls doctor Jimmy Mohammed in Without appointment.

What is vagal discomfort?

Vagal discomfort is a drop in your blood pressure that looks a bit like fainting.

Except that in the syncope, you lose consciousness and often, you have no signs that will tell you, while in the vagal discomfort, it is quite progressive, you feel the discomfort coming.

Your heart is beating fast because you feel that something is going on, your vision may become cloudy, you are going to have hot flashes, you will turn quite pale.

Then you will not pass out, but feel that you have to lie down because that is the only way to raise your blood pressure.

Why do we say vagal discomfort?

Because it comes from the vagus nerve, which is normally used to slow down the heart.

So when you are stressed or in pain, the heart will speed up and, in response, to protect the heart, this nerve will activate and ask to slow down the heart rate a bit.

But when you slow down a heart that beats too fast, you will have less blood going to the brain ... And that's where you will drop your blood pressure and sort of fall apart.

How do you recognize that it's just vagal discomfort?

Because the person does not pass out at first.

She breathes, conscious, will lie down and be a little pale.

The only thing to do is to elevate his legs.

And if this is happening to you, you lie down, even if you are in the subway, and you raise your legs.

This will bring blood up to the level of the brain and pass the discomfort.

In vagal discomfort, there is an almost spontaneous recovery of consciousness.

There is no loss of urine, no bite of the tongue.

These possible symptoms should point you towards other pathologies, such as a seizure.

In the case of vagal discomfort, the person is conscious and breathing.

If this is not the case, of course, you have to call 15.

Should we consult or go to the emergency room?

If you are in fairly good health, have no particular problems, no history, you do not have to go to the emergency room for simple vagal discomfort. You can ask your doctor for advice. Consulting can be useful especially if you have risk factors, such as cardiovascular disease. And if it's grandpa or grandma who are uncomfortable, we are very careful. Because it is exceptional in the elderly without underlying causes. They can become dehydrated, hemorrhaged, or have a heart attack with vagal discomfort as the starting point. So be careful with people who are a little fragile.
