The initiative, which was held in the presence of Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, President of Sharjah Media City (Shams), Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, and Director of Sharjah Media City, Shihab Al Hammadi, aims to provide more opportunities for creative talents in this field, and to support them. And put their ideas in productive works that shed light on youth and issues related to the environment and society, as the film focused on the issue of domestic violence in a dramatic and suspenseful form.

Director Nahla Al-Fahd told Emirates Today, “My first experience in the field of feature films, and I am very happy with it, and all thanks to Sharjah Media City, as it is the first feature film of (Shams), and I see that the experience was thoughtful and without haste, It is the product of the Emirati artistic experience initiative, which was launched at the beginning of 2019, and through it we chose the content of the film.

She added that the film talks about the issue of domestic violence, and it was linked to social media, and how the way was to solve the problem, noting that the idea is different and absent from Emirati cinema, so she wanted to enter it, as it carries a meaningful message to the public.

New topic

Regarding domestic violence that the film deals with, Nahla Al-Fahd explained that “the problem exists in all societies, and there are many consumer issues that have been dealt with in cinema, so we worked to focus on the phenomenon of domestic violence with the presence of female heroism, and thus the focus was on family relations, and the importance of investigating Accuracy on social media ».

She pointed out that domestic violence is a new topic in Emirati cinema, and it is dealt with in a different way, because challenges arise in conveying the problem realistically and without harm.

And it saw that "218 Behind the Wall of Silence" falls under the category of cinemas, and is also suitable for viewing on platforms and in festivals, especially as it is realistic par excellence.

Regarding filming, Nahla Al-Fahd revealed that it was during the summer of 2020, a period that was full of challenges, and filming was done according to many procedures in the UAE, while adhering to the timetable for the completion of the film », noting that the filming was between Sharjah and Ajman. It was in Egypt.

Opportunity for talented people

For his part, the Director of the Media Sector Development Department in Sharjah Media City, Fajr Ali, confirmed that the Emirati artistic experience initiative was like giving talented people an opportunity to make an Emirati film, as it recorded about 2,500 artistic capacities, divided according to specializations, and transformed into 32 teams, and continued To the end, 29 teams produced 29 films, then the works were taken and reworked anew to produce the film in cinema.

He added that the experience focused on making the film, and future sessions may touch on different fields, including script writing and others, stressing that the film industry needs different support and texts, because the Emirati experiences are mostly comic, while this new film is different, considering that the challenges lie To break the stereotype of the film industry in the Emirates.

For her part, actress Amal Muhammad, who plays in the movie the character of Aisha, who has gone through domestic abuse, and tries to show it through social media, said that “the character is a vehicle, and goes out on social media in a different way than it appears in front of people or even at home, and carries many Messages about domestic violence, and how those who have been subjected to it can live a life unlike his life.

Amal Muhammad indicated that she is not against participating in entertaining comedies, as it presents funny acts, but in a clean way.

Meanwhile, actress Haifa Ali, who plays a nice character in the movie, explained that this is the first time that she has presented a role in the field of drama and tragedy away from comedy, considering that such experiences are important to leave a special mark on television and radio.

She stated that she found the transition from comedy to drama easy, because the audience’s laughter is the most difficult task, pointing out that the film’s challenges were filming, diverging and special timing during the “Corona” period.

The dreamy musician

Actor Abdullah Saeed bin Haider plays in the movie the character of Mansour, the young musician who loves to move his music to the farthest extent, but he faced difficulty in that, due to his inability to read people's tastes and present his own taste, in addition to his entry into a story tinged with suspense with Aisha.

Saeed considered that his role represents a different experience for him from the works in cinema, as the film is characterized by female heroism, as it raises the issue of family abuse, and his presence at work comes to highlight the party that provides humanitarian support, as he is the dreamy musician, and thus carries the emotional side of the film, and makes him loaded With distinctive transitions.

He believed that the feature film was important and different, and an adventure worth trying, that needs more light on it and communicated to people.

Different idea

About his experience with director Nahla Al-Fahd in her first narrative experience, artist Habib Ghuloom told "Emirates Today": “I worked with Nahla in the drama, and she is a diligent director, but the idea of this project is different, as most of the participants are young men, and the living idea it deals with The film emanates from them ».

He pointed out that there is an attempt as much as possible to make the film distinct in all respects, especially with the presentation of what is close to the ideas of young people, with the director's keenness to present a coherent film.

Regarding youth experiences, Ghuloom emphasized that he worked to support cinema from various aspects during his career, but cinema failed him, pointing out that Sharjah supports the artistic movement in the Emirates, whether theater or cinema, as the emirate radiates culture and arts, while the rest of the spaces are almost empty. Its culture is based on personal efforts, not institutional.

He believed that the initiative of "Shams" would be clearly reflected in the film industry, because any project and effort that is made adds to the Emirati cinema, especially with the suspension of many festivals in the country.
