They take the risk of dying by carrying very large amounts of drugs in their bodies.

Those who are called "the mules" ingest sachets of cocaine to transport the pure powder to France, against a sum of money.

If one of the sachets were to open, it would be death assured by overdose.

On May 14, a man from Guyana was intercepted at Orly airport.

The police discovered 1.2 kg of cocaine transported "in corpore".

He was taken into custody.

This arrest took place as part of an investigation carried out by the anti-narcotics group of the Ille-et-Vilaine gendarmerie.

The gendarmes were trying to go up the chain of resale of cocaine which operated in Ille-et-Vilaine and in the Côtes d'Armor, from Guyana.

Four men residing in Brittany and suspected of belonging to this network were arrested on Friday.

Six thousand euros in cash

Four of the five individuals involved have a criminal record, including three for drug offenses, said the Rennes prosecutor's office, which oversaw the investigation.

The five men were to be de-ironed on Tuesday morning.

During the searches, the investigators discovered 6,000 euros in cash.
