Emilie Mazoyer receives Friday in her program "Musique!"

Mathias Malzieu, singer of the Dionysos group.

It tells the story of the creation of their new album "Time machine experience", a record and a streaming concert which takes up, like the music of the 1940s, the major titles of the French sextet.

INTERVIEW

"The highway is blocked, we took the small roads".

This is how Mathias Malzieu, singer of Dionysus, sums up how his group continues to create despite the restrictions linked to Covid-19.

Result of this detour through the departmental:

Time machine experience

, a concert broadcast in April in streaming and an album where everything was done in the style of the 1940s.

From instruments to arrangements, from clothes to the microphone, Dionysos has taken a total plunge into the past.

"All these objects are there, but you have to search", specifies Mathias Malzieu.

"There are always collectors and enthusiasts. It's a bit like people who dress retro, they are stories of contacts and networks and enthusiasts."

"The whole team had to get out of their comfort zone"

And it is this research work by word of mouth that seduced Mathias Malzieu in the making of this hybrid disc, between best-of and pure creation.

"What I liked a lot is that you feel like you're investigating sound," says the singer.

"And even an investigation just to find the microphone at the time."

But Mathias Malzieu insists that

Time machine experience

was a collective project.

"Stephan worked on a 1940s banjo for the song

Tomber en amour

. And Olivier Daviaud, who is a bit the X-Factor of the group, makes specific arrangements for us to bring this color to the songs", he thanks. .

"The whole team had to get out of their comfort zone to make something and take a trip down memory lane with the means of the present. It brought in a crazy freshness."
