Hospital pressure continues to drop

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in critical care continued to decline on Sunday, while the daily number of hospital deaths dropped below 100, a first this year, according to figures from Public Health France.

Over the past 24 hours, 81 Covid-19 patients have died in hospital, a level not seen since October 2020.

Critical care services (which bring together resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) now have 4,255 Covid patients, including 102 new admissions in 24 hours, against 4,271 the day before.

This number climbed to 6,001 at the peak of the third wave on April 26 and was still above 5,000 eight days ago.

The total number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus stands at 22,963, with 416 new admissions in 24 hours.

Millions of AstraZeneca doses remain to be sold

While the Hexagon has just passed the bar of 20 million first-time vaccinated against Covid-19, the government is pushing the French to register for the available slots to reach 30 million in mid-June.

But after briefly suspending the use of AstraZeneca following cases of thrombosis, the authorities are struggling to convince those over 55 to use it.

Today, only half of the available doses are injected and some three million wait in the refrigerators.

Other doses will however be delivered in the coming weeks.

For Marie-Paule Kieny, president of the vaccine committee, we must avoid spoiling them at all costs.

Thrombosis cases only affect one in 100,000 people, she repeats.

"The pandemic is still at a high level of activity in France, with transmissions which remain high. The AstraZeneca vaccine remains necessary to achieve the objectives. All these doses must be used and not thrown away."
