For the first time since the start of the year, the number of deaths in the Covid-19 hospital over the past 24 hours has fallen below the 100 mark. The decline continues in the intensive care units.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in critical care continued to decline on Sunday, while the daily number of hospital deaths dropped below 100, a first this year, according to figures from Public Health France.

Over the past 24 hours, 81 Covid-19 patients have died in hospital, a level not seen since October 2020.

Continuous decline

Critical care services (which bring together resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring) now have 4,255 Covid patients, including 102 new admissions in 24 hours, against 4,271 the day before.

This number climbed to 6,001 at the peak of the third wave on April 26 and was still above 5,000 eight days ago.

The total number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus stands at 22,963, with 416 new admissions in 24 hours.

Since Saturday, more than 20 million French people have received a first dose of vaccine and 8.8 million two doses.

The next target set by the government is 30 million first-time vaccines in mid-June.
